Beginning Quilting--Quilting and Binding Pumpkin Hollow Table Runner "Day Two"
Every quilter will eventually need to learn to quilt and bind their quilt tops to make a finished quilt. This class will help students quilt a small item, such as the Pumpkin Hollow table runner or other small quilt top, using straight liine quilting. After quilting, students will learn to create binding strips and machine bind their quilts. Small items such as placemats, table runners or small wall hangings are recommended so students can finish the quilting in class and move on to binding.
Supplies and Materials:
Students will need their own sewing machine (or to rent one for the day at the store). Students will also need basic quilting tools: rotary cutter, scissors, seam ripper, clips, coordinating thread, and a quilting ruler.
Students will also need a small quilt top with adequate batting and backing to prepare a quilt sandwich as well as fabric for binding. The amount depends on what what is being quilted. For the Pumpkin Hollow table runner, students will need 1 1/8 yard of fabric for the backing, 1/2 yard of 90-inch batting, 1/4 yard for binding.

| Requirements: | Participants must already be confident using a sewing machine (winding bobbins, threading the machine, sewing lines with a consistant seam allowance and changing stitches/stitch length). We will not be spending time in class on basic machine operation or basic sewing instruction. |

| Instructor Bio: | Christina began sewing after leaving her career as a biologist and she quickly fell in love. Her inspiration often come with nature-- though she does have a particular love of fabrics with gold and silver metallics. One of Christina's favorite parts of making a quilt is playing around with different fabrics to find her favorite conbination for each pattern. She looks forward to sharing her passion and love of quilting and sewing with her students. |
