Quilt N' Fabric Seams Sew Right

Quilting 101

Learn to quilt or expand your quilting skills in this fun 4-part class! The class objective is to learn and become proficient at quilting basics – measuring with a ruler, rotary cutting, piecing, squaring up blocks, choosing pattern, and choosing fabrics. Participants must have recent knowledge and experience with a sewing machine and must be able to confidently sew a straight seam.

You’ll learn how to cut and sew together Rail Fence, Nine Patch, and Half Square Triangle blocks. These are traditional frequently used blocks that should be in every quilter’s skill set.

Required Supplies:

  • Four ¼ yard cuts of coordinating quilting fabrics. Do not prewash fabric, but make sure you iron them.
  • 45 mm rotary cutter with a new blade (plus some extra blades)
  • White or ivory cotton thread
  • 3 wound bobbins
  • 6” x 24” or 6 ½” x 24” quilting ruler
    • Other recommended rulers:
      • 4”x 14”
      • 2 ½ x 6 ½”
  • Sewing Machine
    • Quarter-inch presser foot
    • Machines are available to rent for $5.00, but we recommend bringing your own machine.
  • Scissors
  • Seam Ripper
  • Pins
  • Paper and Pencil for note taking

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Must be comfortable sewing with your sewing machine and making straight lines.
